Free Flow Exporter Interfaces Capability

Dec 22, 2010

Just ahead of our Q1/11 update of FlowTraq, ProQueSys has launched a more capable Free Flow Exporter. Now you can specify which IPs and CIDR blocks should map to which IFindex interface number. This allows users to conveniently split up the network into over 4000 virtual segments. Put all systems in accounting into one IFindex, put sales and support in another. Now you can conveniently monitor usage by groups of addresses through our IFindex mapping feature.

Flow Exporter Updated

Nov 18, 2010

Today ProQueSys released an update to the Free Flow Exporter. Improvements include more efficient handling of high packet volumes and the ability to turn off promiscuous mode on the interface. ‘Promiscuous’ mode is used for sniffing all traffic, turning it off enables a user to export only those flows that were destined for, or originated from the machine that is running the exporter. This is especially helpful if you are running in a virtual environment (such as VMware ESX or Workstation) and you do not have sufficient permissions on the virtual switch, or the physical host interface.

Network Computing Covers FlowTraq Launch

Nov 16, 2010

In their October 7th publication, Network Computing covered the launch of our new FlowTraq(tm) product: “Brad Adwers, an enterprise network specialist the San Diego Community College District, has been beta testing the system and praises the product for its speed and capacity. The district has five sites connected by Metro Ethernet, supporting up to 50,000 clients and 3.5 million events hourly. “We’ve been using it to isolate and find users who have been infected by malware or taken over by a botnet,” he says.”

The new ProQueSys FlowTraq software uses flow analysis to give administrators better insight into their networks for the purposes of monitoring, security, and forensics. FlowTraq can help admins protect their networks by tracking the source of an attack and ascertaining its effect. The company says FlowTraq’s three chief benefits start with actionable intelligence, meaning fast access to the specifics of each unique risk factor. Next, the software’s instant forensics reveals the source and scope of a problem for faster resolution. Finally, FlowTraq’s threat anticipation features help security teams to recognize potential problems before they occur.

Flow Exporter Theory of Operation and Update

Apr 06, 2010

We’ve received some inquiries about what exactly Flow Exporter does, and I thought I’d write a quick blog post explaining both the what and the how in a bit more depth
A flow exporter (note the lower case letters!) is a software or hardware engine that keeps track of all the current sessions that it “sees”; in hardware-land, this might mean all the packets that a switch switches, in software-land, it’s what can be seen on an interface or set of interfaces.
